The Valve Application Engineer supports the design, selection, and application of industrial valves in heat pump, refrigeration, and gas compression systems. This role combines deep technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities to ensure optimal valve performance across a range of demanding thermal and gas handling applications. The engineer evaluates system parameters, compliance standards, and customer needs to recommend control valves, safety valves, and isolation valves suited for critical environments, such as ammonia, propane, propylene, CO₂ and other refrigeration industrial gas compression, and thermal process systems. Responsibilities: Analyze customer specifications, system parameters, and process diagrams (P&IDs) to identify correct valve types, materials, and configurations. Size and select valves for applications involving high-pressure gas compression, thermal transfer systems, and industrial refrigeration cycles (including ammonia, CO₂, and HFCs). Prepare detailed valve datasheets, sizing calculations, and technical documentation for proposals and submittals. Ensure valve selection aligns with system requirements for temperature, pressure, media compatibility, flow capacity, and safety compliance. Collaborate with sales and project teams to support bids, tenders, and technical clarification meetings. Liaise with valve manufacturers and automation vendors to ensure accurate and timely delivery of engineered solutions. Support the field service and commissioning teams with valve troubleshooting, start-up support, and post-installation performance evaluations. Provide technical training for internal staff, customers, and contractors on valve application best practices. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as ASME B31.5, API, PED, ISO 5149, and EN 378. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product selection tools, documentation, and application accuracy. Your Profile / Qualifications Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in mechanical or chemical engineering 3-5 years of experience working with Valves highly preferred, Project/Design Engineering experience required. Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and mechanical schematics. Knowledge of materials compatibility, valve automation (pneumatic/electric actuators), and sealing technologies. Understanding of relevant safety and environmental standards related to pressurized systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interface with customers, vendors, and internal teams. Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to evolving customer requirements. The typical base pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $91,739.00 - $122,318.00 per year. GEA Group has different base pay ranges for different work locations within the United States. The pay range is not a guarantee of compensation or salary. The estimated range is the budgeted amount for the position. Final offers are based on various factors, including skill set, experience, location, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.
