Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: The CRNA implements accurate, safe, patient-centric anesthetic care.
  • Professional Skill: Understands physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures, constantly monitors vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines.
  • Information Management: The CRNA ensures appropriate documentation within the accordance of hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information of all forms, whether computer-based, paper, film, voice, or other media from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Quality Management: The CRNA is expected to demonstrate a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • Professional Development: The CRNA continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.

Qualifications

  • Education: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist; completion of CRNA training program; graduate of an AANA-accredited Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program; current State of Connecticut APRN licensure.
  • Experience: Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line, but none required. Appointment and credentialing through the Medical Staff process are required for APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs.
  • Licensure: AANA Certification; CT RN and APRN licensure; ACLS; DEA Registration and CT Controlled Substances Registration.
  • Special Skills: Sharp concentration and calm under stress; clear and effective communication with surgeons, the surgical team, patients, and families; adaptability and immediate anesthetic management.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to observe, communicate, and perform motor tasks; capacity to stand for long periods; lift up to 25 pounds; ability to work in varied surgical environments; strong sensory and coordination abilities.
