A Nurse Anesthesiologist (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist) delivers safe, patient-centered anesthesia care in collaboration with medical teams for surgical and medical procedures. This role requires adaptability to a flexible schedule including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays, and involves managing anesthesia in a fast-paced hospital environment. The CRNA ensures continuous patient care, follows regulatory standards, engages in professional development, and contributes ethically and compassionately to patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Care: The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) implements accurate, safe, patient-centric anesthetic care.
  • Professional Skill: Understands physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures, constantly monitors vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines.
  • Information Management: The CRNA ensures appropriate documentation in accordance with hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information in all forms from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • Quality Management: The CRNA demonstrates high standards of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • Professional Development: The CRNA continuously engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.

Qualifications

  • Education: Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist; Completion of a Certified Nurse Anesthesia Training Program; Graduates of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the AANA Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs; Current State of Connecticut Nursing License; Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Connecticut.
  • Experience: Prefer clinical experience as a CRNA in the given specialty/service line, but none required. Appointment and credentialing through the Medical Staff process are required for APRNs, PAs, CRNAs, and CNMs.
  • Licensure: AANA Certification; State of CT RN and APRN License; ACLS; DEA Registration and CT Controlled Substance Registration.
  • Special Skills: Ability to maintain concentration and composure under stress; clear, effective communication with surgeons, staff, patients, and families; flexibility and adaptability in dynamic clinical settings.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to observe, communicate, and interpret monitoring data; adequate vision and hearing; ability to stand for long periods; lift up to 25 pounds; maneuver in patient care environments; strong coordination and functional use of senses; ability to work under physically taxing workloads and adapt to changing environments.
