This position is responsible for selling fuel, lubricants, diesel exhaust fluids (DEF), cardlock fuels, and petroleum equipment to a diverse range of customers.
What You Will Do
- Sales and Business Development: Identify and target profitable new business opportunities to expand the customer base for fuel, lubricants, DEF, cardlock fuels, and petroleum equipment; develop and implement effective sales strategies to achieve profitable sales targets and grow market share; conduct market research to understand customer needs, industry trends, and competitor activities.
- Customer Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with existing customers to ensure satisfaction and repeat business; provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and offering product recommendations; conduct regular follow-ups with customers to assess their needs and introduce new products and promotions.
- Product Expertise: Maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s product offerings, including fuel, lubricants, DEF, and petroleum equipment; educate customers on product features, benefits, and applications to assist them in making informed purchasing decisions; stay updated on industry developments, emerging technologies, and new products.
- Sales Reporting and Administration: Prepare and submit sales reports, forecasts, and territory plans to management; maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and transactions using CRM software; collaborate with internal teams, including operations, marketing, and customer service, to coordinate efforts to meet customer needs.
- Additional: Complete operational tasks as needed to meet customer demands including inventory checks, pull orders, repair or replace equipment, etc.; deliver product to customers as needed; install lubrication and fuel equipment as needed at customer locations; assist in inventory management to ensure customer orders can be met.
- Supervision Of Others: None
- Work Environment: Occasional office work; frequently in outside sales environments; frequent travel to customer sites and work around equipment, machinery, and vehicles; exposure to fuel and fuel fumes in some environments; occasional hot or cold environments.
- Physical Demands: Sit and stand for extended periods; move freely around work and customer sites; climb stairs and ladders, kneel, bend, and stoop; lift up to 75 lbs; frequent use of phone, computer, and office equipment.
- Travel: Local area travel continuously; outside of local area less than 25%.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Three or more years of experience in outside sales in a business-to-business environment or a related field in an associated industry.
- Strong customer service skills; excellent presentation skills; able to develop and close sales processes; strong verbal and written communication skills; strong computer skills and ability to learn company systems and processes; strong business acumen.
- Adheres to the company’s values and ethical expectations; valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Education and Experience Preferences
- Bachelors degree in an applicable field (preferred).
- Sales or operations experience in lubricant and fuel industry (preferred).
- Experience using CRM solutions (preferred).
- Knowledge of businesses in the local work area (preferred).
- Experience in marketing in a business-to-consumer arena (preferred).
