Overview

Summary

Estes Energetics is seeking an Accountant for a hybrid role supporting both day-to-day operations and broader financial initiatives. This position will be responsible for core accounting functions, including general ledger management, budgeting support, forecasting, and compliance. As one of the company’s first dedicated accounting professionals, the Accountant will play an important role in establishing financial processes and ensuring accuracy across reporting. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and capable of working independently while collaborating across teams to support the company’s growth.

Responsibilities

  • Model the company values.
  • Perform financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • Manage financial, management, and tax accounting in accordance with GAAP, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger transactions and schedules.
  • Coordinate preparation of annual and other federal, state, and local tax returns by external tax accountants.
  • Coordinate independent financial audits and valuations, including single audits (“yellow book audit”) and audits by the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA).
  • Prepare cost proposals and manage Government and commercial contracts.
  • Manage and improve business systems and processes (ERP, accounting, inventory, etc.).

Qualifications

Required

  • Skilled communicator across all formats- written, verbal, and executive presentations
  • 5+ years of experience in financial roles
  • Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making
  • Tech-savvy with advanced skills in financial software and reporting tools
  • Experience selecting, implementing, and managing ERP and other enterprise systems
  • Passion for operational excellence and experience streamlining business processes through automation
  • 5 years of experience working for a Government contractor
  • CPA

Physical Demands

  • Sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Occasional movement through a manufacturing environment.
  • Use of personal protective equipment appropriate to the work location.

Position Type and Hours

This is a full-time position on a 9/80 schedule. The employee is expected to work at least 40 hours per week and some overtime may be required.

Work Authorization

Must be a US citizen or national, a lawful permanent resident, or a protected individual as defined in 8 USC 1324b. Ability to pass a background check and drug test per federal and state explosives licensing requirements. Prior Department of Defense security clearance a plus.

60,000 - 85,000 USD per year (Penrose, CO)
