Overview
Greater Texas Foundation is a private foundation based in Bryan, Texas. The foundation’s mission is to ensure all Texas students are prepared for, have access to, persist in, and complete a postsecondary credential. This position plays a crucial role in establishing and maintaining sound financial practices, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and supporting the foundation’s financial operations. The individual filling this position will report to the Manager of Accounting.
Position Description
This is a full time/32 hours per week role based in our office in Bryan, Texas.
Responsibilities
- Financial Operations: Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes. Prepare and enter journal entries into the general ledger. Perform monthly bank and general ledger reconciliations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements and cash flow statements.
- Process Compliance and Improvement: Perform financial analysis to identify trends, variances and potential issues. Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and best practices in the nonprofit field. Assist the Manager of Accounting with budget development and monitoring. Provide assistance during the annual external audit process. Assist in the tax return preparation and filing process. Support cash management activities. Support the management of the FFELP student loan portfolio.
- Other Duties: Contribute to special projects and initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience.
- Experience working in nonprofit organizations or private foundations is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
- Proven track record of professional development and preparation for increasing responsibilities.
- Excellent knowledge of accounting software (Great Plains Dynamics a plus) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, proactively, and as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Demonstrated good judgment and ability to act independently within foundation guidelines.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable.
Working Conditions
- This position is a full-time, salaried, 32 hours/week role with a flexible set workday schedule as defined upon hiring (GTF’s operating hours are M-F 8 a.m.-5 p.m.). Occasional after-hours work and travel may be required.
- This position is an onsite position at GTF's office in Bryan, TX.
- Salary commensurate with experience
- GTF does not pay relocation expenses for this role.

Salary Range
$57,000 - $63,000/year, commensurate with experience (32 hours per week within office M-F 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. defined upon hiring)
