Chassis And Body Controls Software Design Release Engineer

Work Arrangement: Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Metro-Detroit three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business. The Chassis and Body Controls Software Design Release Engineer position will be responsible for sourcing, validating and releasing various Chassis and Body controllers for production. The SW DRE will be steward of the part as it impacts the customer and single point contact between GM and the supplier. You will be responsible for creating, communicating, and leading various types of product plans and ensuring the on-time delivery for vehicle builds and production. Additionally, you will be responsible for managing software related PRTS (Problem Resolution Tracking System) and ensure solutions are implemented in a timely manner. This role requires a balanced mix of technical engineering skills and leadership skills, where you will have a high level of responsibility. The Chassis and Body Controls Software Design Release Engineer position will be responsible for sourcing, validating and releasing software for development and production. What You'll Do (Responsibilities): Address all controller and system safety concerns promptly. Lead and support product issue investigations (Problem Resolution Tracking System PRTS), continuous process improvements, standard methodologies, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives Facilitate requirements and design reviews with suppliers, algorithm and software groups Organizes and leads key Controller Product Development Team (PDT) meetings Support investigations on software related issues Own/Release the software for development & production. Manage part number proliferation for the embedded controller (end model part number, software, and calibration parts) Create and manage controller validation plans--Worst Case Analysis, Bench (Design Demo), Design and Process Validation Coordinate activities and manage a full test plan including required supplier testing as well as all other testing required to validate component including, but not limited to: applicable regulatory testing, subsystem integration testing, system safety testing, cybersecurity, etc. Keep supplier(s) on track to meet key milestones (design freeze, gate reviews for prototype levels, validation start and complete dates) Supplier and Vehicle Assembly plant visits as required Monitor warranty and work with suppliers as needed Required Qualifications: Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related degree Must be graduating between Dec 2025 June 2026 Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications): Formula SAE, Baja, Auto Drive, FIRST, VEX Robotics, or other Automotive related experience/clubs Experience in the GM product release and specification process High level knowledge of software verification/validation processes Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms This position requires legally operating a motor vehicle Experience with customer interface technologies Basic knowledge of vehicle serial data communications Basic knowledge of vehicle dynamics and electronic chassis and body controls systems Basic knowledge of Diagnostics and Functional Safety Basic knowledge of SAFe Agile Release process Compensation: The base salary will be based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.
