Salt truck drivers must have commercial driving experience with a valid CDL, a clean driving record, and be drug-free. The role involves winter road maintenance and driving trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations.

Responsibilities

• Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to vehicles and maintain logs of working hours or vehicle service/repair status in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Check vehicles to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment are in good working order.
• Operate trucks to transport and deliver products, livestock, or other materials, and read maps to determine routes.
• Use equipment such as truck cab computers, CB radios, phones, or GPS devices to exchange information with bases, supervisors, or other drivers.
• Load or unload trucks or assist with loading/unloading using appropriate loading-related equipment as necessary.
• Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions to minimize fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
• Operate snowplows or sander attachments to maintain roads in winter weather.

Qualifications

• Reliable, trustworthy, experienced Salt Truck Driver with commercial driving experience and a valid CDL with a clean driving record and drug-free status.
• Experience supervising other laborers, navigating between job sites, clearing drivelanes and parking lots with plow, applying deicing/salt to parking lots, and interacting professionally with customers.
• Willingness to train crews on site needs, equipment handling, and safety. Availability to respond to work requests 24/7 and ability to work extended periods without interruption.
• Part-time drivers are encouraged to apply for fill-in salt truck driver positions.
