Job Overview This 2nd Shift Molecular Technologist II role requires performing high complexity laboratory testing on patient specimens, including nucleic acid isolation and next-generation sequencing. The position demands excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, multitasking abilities, flexibility with schedules, and strong adherence to quality control and assurance procedures.
Key Responsibilities: Process patient samples using molecular biology protocols governed by standard operating procedures (SOPs). Extract nucleic acids from sample types, including human tissue, blood, and saliva. Construct DNA/RNA libraries and perform NGS. Operate liquid handling robots and analyze moderate sample or plate issues. Review patient and control data, document according to laboratory quality procedures, identify shifts, trends, or abnormal data, and communicate causality and solutions. Maintain sufficient inventory of laboratory supplies and work closely with the supply chain group to support point-of-use supplies. Contribute to training efforts and provide/create training materials. Perform daily maintenance and monitor laboratory equipment, troubleshoot moderate instrumentation issues, recover automated processes, and assist with SOP development. Document activities and results in the LIMS and worksheets and perform environmental health and safety functions as needed. Act as a point of contact for temperature alarm systems and respond to ensure specimen and reagent integrity as needed. Apply feedback professionally, prioritize results with a focus on quality, and maintain open communication with internal employees, managers, customers, and team members.
