Field Technician - Power Distribution/Utilities

The distribution field technician will be responsible for conducting field inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment. The individual will compile field data, prepare minor work orders, and maintain distribution equipment reports. Duties include measuring and mapping LVD systems, identifying and recording electrical equipment on poles, and performing various technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. The role requires daily reporting to the Kettering, OH office. Responsibilities: Conduct visual inspections of overhead and underground electrical distribution equipment. Compile field data collection, prepare minor work orders, and maintain distribution equipment reports. Measure and map out LVD systems, and identify and record electrical equipment on poles. Perform system inventories, audits, joint-use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits. Utilize laptop computers, tablets, GPS, and other electronic devices for field data collection. Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and electric utility construction standards. Operate equipment such as height sticks and range finders to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities. Achieve weekly billable goals as defined by the project guidelines. Essential Skills: Proficiency in data collection and field data analysis. High school diploma required; associate's degree preferred. Knowledge of utility locating and distribution design. Understanding of NESC, LVD, overhead lines, and pole analysis. Ability to work with customers, landowners, and clientele to facilitate power utility asset replacements and upgrades. Experience in design analysis, fieldwork, and pre-field work. Proficiency in using equipment like height sticks and range finders. Work Environment: The technician will report daily to the Dayton/Kettering, OH office. Once at the office, they will be assigned to a team member who will drive them to the day's work location, usually within an hour from the office. The work schedule typically consists of four 10-hour days, with an option for five 10-hour days. The role involves tackling meaningful projects, and the company invests in employee career development through training and skill certification.
