Distribution Field Technician

The Distribution Field Technician will be engaged in joint use projects in the field, including some Oncor work. The role involves per diem work out of town, data entry, and overseeing the specifications and construction processes for various utilities. The technician will perform a range of field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems, including system inventories, audits, joint use management and permitting, sub-surface or pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits. Responsibilities: Perform field data collection utilizing laptop computer, tablet device, GPS, and other electronic devices for input into database software. Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and communication facilities. Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, and inspect pad-mount equipment. Perform other duties as assigned. Assist with storm damage assessments to overhead and underground distribution structures and equipment. Essential Skills: Proficiency in computer skills and software navigation. Experience in utility and aerial construction. Ability to identify early requirements and manage data collection processes using roughbook/tablet, GPS, and other devices. Understanding of distribution engineering and NESC standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. 0-3 years of experience as a Field Technician with utility experience preferred. Experience with field survey equipment including range finders, hasting sticks, and GPS units. Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred. Knowledge of MS Office products preferred. Clean and valid driver's license required; must be at least 18 years of age to drive. Willingness to provide consent for GPS tracking via company-issued devices. Analytical competence to interact with engineers and experienced distribution system designers. Work Environment: The role requires regional travel to utility client territories primarily during business hours, with overnight travel expected. Employees are provided take-home vehicles and work in pairs for OKC projects, utilizing side-by-side vehicles for full data collection in rural areas. East TX work is conducted individually. The schedule typically involves travel on Sunday and Friday, with work conducted Monday through Thursday all day. The position includes per diem for travel, with work opportunities in Kansas, Georgia, Louisiana, and Arkansas. Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Arlington, Texas. Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
