Senior Lifeguard
This is a skilled position with more than average difficulty in life guarding and swimming instructions at a City Swimming pool. An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision and instruction of swimming and a variety of recreational activities at a City swimming pool. This includes efficient and safe operation of a City swimming pool for the convenience, enjoyment and safety of patrons. A Senior Lifeguard assists with the supervision of subordinate staff and pool patrons. Responsible for maintaining of pool deck, restrooms, changing rooms and surrounding area. Days/Hours: About 25 hours/week, rotating schedule within operations of facility: Weekdays from 5:30 AM to 9:00 PM, and weekends from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Schedule may include weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events as needed. Ensure safety of patrons while utilizing swimming and fitness facilities. Teach Swim lessons. General maintenance and cleaning of pools and facilities. High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Possession of current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, ARC Lifeguard training, Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification required to teach swim lessons. Ability to pass skills test which consists of swimming 400 yards or meters, performing CPR, rescue breathing, conscious and unconscious choking. At least three (3) years experience as a Lifeguard at a municipality, beach, water park, or similar facility. Days/Hours: schedule may include weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events as needed. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving.
