Pavement Airfield Sweeper

DFW Airport is seeking a Pavement Airfield Sweeper to play a vital role in keeping our runways, taxiways, and paved surfaces safe and operational. From operating sweepers to remove debris and foreign object damage (FOD) to assisting with snow and ice removal during severe weather, this role ensures the highest standards of airfield safety and efficiency. What You'll Do: Operate a pavement sweeper daily to clear debris and FOD from runways, taxiways, and apron areas. Assist Airfield Operations during routine runway inspections to identify and address surface hazards. Operate specialized snow and ice removal equipment in winter weather, including plows, brooms, blowers, deicer sprayers, and spreaders. Support pavement repair crews in tasks such as pothole/spall repair, asphalt mill and overlay, concrete patching, curb repair, and crack/joint maintenance. Safely operate light and heavy-duty equipment such as dump trucks, graders, loaders, skid steers, and concrete saws. Set up and maintain traffic control devices and barriers to establish safe work zones. Maintain and restock material inventories (concrete, cold patch, etc.), and perform routine vehicle/equipment checks, fueling, and lubrication. Respond to on-call emergencies to provide airfield pavement support. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent; OR one (1) year of relevant work experience (education/experience combinations considered). Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a set timeframe (company-paid training available). Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must pass a medical physical exam. Safe driving record: no more than 2 moving violations in the last 36 months and no DWI convictions in the last 60 months. Must pass pre-employment and ongoing DOT/airport-required drug and alcohol screenings. Working Conditions: Outdoor maintenance environment with exposure to hot asphalt, dust, fumes, noise, and extreme weather. Frequent manual labor with lifting up to 50 lbs. (occasionally up to 100 lbs.). Operation of powered/mobile pavement maintenance equipment using hand/foot controls. Requires climbing, kneeling, stooping, and squatting for extended periods. Regular use of two-way radios (including AOA Ground Control), email, and direct communication. Driving to various airport locations, including within restricted AOA zones.
