Van Driver (Full Time) Educational Service Center of Central Ohio This role provides safe and efficient transportation of students and complies with applicable transportation laws and district policies. Responsibilities

Cleans the van and coordinates necessary repairs and service as needed Completes mandated pre-trip inspections prior to driving the van each day Is compliant with all Ohio laws, Ohio Department of Education rules, and district policies related to drug and alcohol testing (random, reasonable cause, post-accident) Obeys all Ohio and local traffic laws, and district policies and procedures Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses Keeps to assigned schedule and route Directly supervises students in the van at all times and remains alert to student behavior Maintains firm, fair, and consistent discipline on the bus Enforces school van regulations as outlined in the handbook and bus rules document Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority in writing Picks up and discharges students only at authorized stops Transports only authorized students Completes and submits route timing sheets, time sheets, and other required reports/forms Notifies the proper authorities in case of mechanical failure or delay in arrival Notifies the proper authorities in the event of hazardous road conditions Reports all accidents and completes required accident reports within 24 hours Attends safety workshops and meetings as required by district administration Keeps the van fueled at all times and uses established fueling procedures; directly supervises fueling activity and reports spills immediately Uses proper grammar and spelling in disciplinary forms and other reports Uses the bus radio professionally and only for school/safety related business Follows Ohio law and district policy regarding use of cell phones and other electronic devices (may not be used at any time while students are present on the bus) Idles only as needed, with morning warm-up typically 5 minutes (up to 10 minutes when temperature is below 32F) Shuts engine off when parked on school property for 3 minutes or more, with exceptions for handicapped lifts; does not restart the bus until all students have boarded Maintains a professional demeanor and safe conduct on duty and on school property Qualifications

Must be 21 years of age Meet the criteria established by the Ohio Department of Education, Form T-8 Complete pre-service and in-service training per Rule 3301-83-10 of the Administrative Code to operate a school van and have knowledge of the Transportation Laws and Regulations prior to testing by the Ohio State Highway Patrol Hold a current driver's license Demonstrates the ability to cope with stressful situations as related to all students, including students with disabilities Possess or upgrade skills through formal and/or in-service training related to transportation of students, including students with disabilities A satisfactory work history and driving record as verified through professional references and a background check (State Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation, FBI, BMV and/or local law enforcement) The school van driver should have an understanding of the role of pupil transportation in the educational program and meet all physical, mental, and moral requirements established by State laws and regulations and local Board of Education Policies Pass Pre-Employment drug screen and all job-related drug and alcohol screens as required under Ohio law Reports to

Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Transportation Coordinator. Drivers are evaluated annually prior to acquiring a continuing contract; subsequent evaluations occur at least every three years, with additional evaluations as deemed necessary. Seniority level
