The City of Belleville is accepting applications for a Driver in our Sanitation Department. Job Summary

Drive refuse collection truck and pick up refuse and recyclable materials on assigned routes. Perform vehicle maintenance and assist at recycling center. Job Scope

No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. Principle Duties and Responsibilities

Drive refuse truck on assigned routes. Pick up refuse at residences, including yard waste. Pick up refuse along curbsides and alleys to maintain a neat appearance in the City of Belleville. Pick up recyclable materials on specific routes. Unload & maintain recyclable materials at recycling center. Dump refuse at landfill, according to regulations. Perform preventative maintenance of the vehicles including checking tires and fluids. Report to Working Foreman any yards/properties that have code violations. Adhere to proper safety techniques and utilize safety equipment. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that promotes a good working relationship with clients, customers, co-workers, and supervisors. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Requires high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in the operation of heavy equipment preferred. Requires a valid State of Illinois Commercial Driver's License (CDL). Minimum of Class B with Air Brake endorsement. Class A preferred. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered. Special Requirements

Knowledge of operation, servicing, and preventative maintenance of vehicles. Knowledge of the tools, materials, methods, and practices required to collect refuse and recyclable materials. Ability to operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects. Ability to perform physical labor including lifting, pulling, and hauling of refuse and recyclable materials. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, outdoors, under adverse weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, other employees, and the general public. Must reside within a 25-mile radius from the corporate limits of the City of Belleville. All new employees shall have fifteen (15) months from their date of hire to comply with the residency restrictions. #J-18808-Ljbffr
