The Maintenance Mechanic B will perform preventive maintenance and repairs on all equipment and facilities. The incumbent will perform diagnostics, testing, disassembly, inspecting, repair and re-assembly of plant equipment or components such as lathes, hydraulic machines, presses, shears (hydraulic and mechanical), cranes, drill presses and components. The incumbent will assist with proper replacement and or adjustment of mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc. as well as perform fabrication of fixtures (welding, cutting, brazing and surface applications). The Maintenance Mechanic will assist with major and general repairs on all equipment. Other important details about the role include: Occasionally called during irregular hours to handle production coverage or snow removal with little or no supervision. Reports all abnormal conditions and safety hazards to Supervisor. Maintains a clean, neat working area and machine tools. Requires minimum supervision. May be called upon to operate a forklift provided employee is qualified. Essential functions include: Perform diagnostics and repair electromechanical equipment in an industrial environment. Solid understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical schematics and terminology. Collaborate with internal customers to ensure the most efficient methods of repair. Create and maintain solid relationships with customers and vendors. Perform stick and MIG welding. Ability to braze, surface hard, and use a cutting torch. Understand and utlize gauging equipment from .001 of an inch and up, dial indicators, micrometers, feeler gauges etc. Read and understand mechanical blueprints. Working knowledge of basic rigging principles and methods. Analyze, diagnose and repair or rebuild dies and truss rod headers. Understand and follow work instructions. Ability to repair steam pipes. Operate industrial vehicles including but not limited to forklift, man lift, and overhead cranes. Additionally will operate implement equipment, such as loaders or tractors. Must be able to work overtime and/or on different shifts as required. Required qualifications of every candidate include: 1-3+ years of relevant experience. Proven arithmetic skills - addition, subtraction, multiplication, division. Ability to read and comprehend hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical schematics. Proven MIG and stick welding experience. Knows and understands mechanisms. Understands and applies standard mechanical procedures and practices for repair and replacement of machine components. Understands and applies proper safety procedures when working on equipment and machines. Understands and applies the proper rigging techniques when using chains, slings, wire ropes, etc. Ability to read, write, and communicate with co-workers. Ability to read all types of mechanical blueprints.
