BCV is opening a position for a Controller/Accountant with 8 or more years of experience to join our firm in San Francisco.

Overview

The Controller/Accountant has responsibility for the firm’s overall financial health. It is a highly responsible position, with a broad range of finance, accounting and project cost management functions. The position requires excellent interpersonal, communication (oral and written) and management skills, as well as excellent knowledge, skill, and ability in every phase and aspect of financial management and accounting.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field, ideally with an MBA/CPA. Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a senior finance position. Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), finance, budgeting, financial data analysis, accounting, project cost management and cost control principles and federal and multi-state tax laws.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Financial Management

  • Direct and monitor all financial activity of the organization.
  • Have a clear understanding of and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Manage company cash flow and forecasting.
  • Assess company spending and work to reduce costs.
  • Generate income through the safe investment of company funds.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly and annual financial statements and analysis for two companies and ensure that all financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Prepare financial graphs, metrics and analysis for inclusion in the firm’s annual report for the Principals/Associates/Shareholders retreat.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to Principals and Project Managers and ensure that all financial decisions are aligned with the organization’s strategic goals.

Accounting

  • Ensure the accuracy of all financial data and that all financial transactions are properly recorded.
  • Accounts Payable (consultant and vendor invoices, employee expense reports, consultant budget tracking).
  • Accounts Receivable (client invoicing, collections).
  • Payroll (employee salaries, deductions, withholding taxes, employer taxes, payroll processing and reconciliation, quarterly and annual employer tax returns).
  • Banking (cash management, deposits, billpaying, investments, line of credit management)
  • Conduct annual R&D tax credit study.
  • Conduct annual comprehensive general ledger reconciliation and work with CPA to prepare annual tax returns.

Project Cost Management

Ensure timely and accurate input of all time and expense data to project cost management software, generate monthly and annual reports.

  • Monitor the performance of projects and communicate data to Principals and Project Managers.
  • Educate Project Managers and Job Captains on project cost management software usage and how to run reports and interpret data.

Administration

Insurance Policy Administration (annual negotiation and renewal of professional liability, business property and liability, auto insurance, WRAP policy, cyber insurance, earthquake policy, workers compensation, officers’ life and long-term disability insurance).

  • Maintain relationships with clients, consultants, vendors and brokers.
  • Ensure timely renewals of licenses and firm registrations.
  • Ensure compliance with quarterly and annual business tax filing requirements and annual insurance policy audits.
  • Administer ownership expansion transactions and company stock sales.
  • Maintain corporate stock book and corporate records.
  • Oversee administrative functions as well as facilities to ensure efficient and consistent operations.

Human Resources

  • Onboard and offboard employees for payroll and benefits administration purposes.
  • Benefits Administration (group medical/dental/long-term disability/life insurance, pre-tax FSA and commuter flex benefit plans, annual open-enrollment).
  • Monitor changes to federal, multi-state and local employment laws and regulations to ensure that the firm’s personnel manual remains in compliance and periodically publish updated manual.
  • 401(k) Administration (manage employee deferrals, safe harbor funding and conduct annual discrimination testing and governmental compliance).
  • Annually prepare individual employee compensation statements gathering data from various sources.
  • Manage and administer Giants season tickets for staff.
  • Maintain personnel files.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The ideal candidate has experience with final responsibility for the quality and content of all financial data and reporting.

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency with Deltek Vantagepoint, Quickbooks, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other business software.
  • Outstanding trustworthiness, integrity and solid moral judgment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize workload in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Excellent and clear verbal and written communications, interpersonal skills, supervisory skills, and the mathematics of financial management.
  • Strong business acumen, strict attention to detail, organizational and time management skills.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, multi-state, local laws, regulations and standards pertaining to financial management and accounting and benefits administration.
  • Expert problem solver, analytical thinker, and decision-maker.

This position is full time and offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Benefits include paid time off, health and dental insurance, 401k profit-sharing plan and other incentives.

Compensation Range: $120,000-$150,000 Commensurate with experience and knowledge in the AEC industry.
