The Director of Procurement is responsible for developing and executing the company’s procurement strategy while managing day-to-day purchasing operations in a complex Engineer-to-Order (ETO) environment. This role ensures the timely acquisition of materials, components, and services for the manufacture of heavy industrial conveyor systems, balancing cost, quality, and delivery requirements. The position requires both strategic vision—driving supplier performance, cost reduction initiatives, and risk mitigation—and tactical leadership—overseeing purchase orders, expediting critical parts, and supporting project schedules.

Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership Develop and execute short- and long-term procurement strategies aligned with overall business objectives and project delivery goals. Build and maintain a qualified supplier base capable of meeting ETO complexity, low-volume/high-value requirements, and tight delivery timelines. Negotiate strategic supply agreements, long-term pricing, and performance-based contracts to optimize cost, quality, and lead time. Monitor market conditions for raw materials (e.g., steel, bearings, drives,) and proactively manage cost fluctuations and supply risks. Collaborate with Engineering and Project Management to influence design decisions that optimize material availability, manufacturability, and cost.

Operational Management Oversee the end-to-end purchasing process, from requisition to purchase order issuance, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timeliness. Lead expediting efforts for critical-path components to support aggressive project schedules. Maintain accurate Dashboard (Future ERP/MRP) data, including lead times, order status, and supplier performance metrics. Drive standardization in purchased parts and materials to improve efficiency and reduce inventory costs. Manage supplier scorecards, performance reviews, and corrective action processes to ensure on-time delivery and quality compliance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration Partner with Fabrication and Field Service teams to address material shortages, quality issues, and urgent procurement needs. Coordinate with Finance to ensure accurate invoice reconciliation, payment terms, and budget tracking. Support continuous improvement initiatives, including Lean and Six Sigma projects, to streamline the procurement process.

Team Leadership Lead and develop the purchasing team, setting performance goals and providing mentorship. Currently managing 2 direct reports. Establish clear KPIs for purchasing efficiency, supplier performance, and cost savings. Create a culture of accountability, urgency, and proactive problem-solving within the purchasing function.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business Administration, Engineering, or related field (CPM/CSCP preferred). 10+ years of progressive purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Prior experience in Engineer-to-Order or project-based manufacturing strongly preferred, heavy industrial manufacturing experience a plus. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems; experience with IFS preferred. Strong negotiation skills, supplier relationship management, and cost control expertise. Knowledge of raw material markets, fabrication processes, and industrial components. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
