This position is within the Lumentum legal team and will report directly to the Chief Trade & Compliance Counsel.This high-impact, dual-focused role will help build the Global Trade Compliance program while also supporting Global Trade Operations.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in international trade laws and requirements, including export control regulations, economic sanctions, and customs laws, along with practical experience overseeing trade operations.This role will involve developing and implementing global trade compliance procedures, enhancing internal controls, and handling trade compliance matters while supporting global trade operations across multiple jurisdictions.
The ideal candidate combines deep understanding of regulatory requirements with practical experience managing global trade operations in a dynamic, fast-paced tech environment. **Global Trade Compliance Responsibilities *** Develop and implement enhancements to Lumentum’s global trade compliance program, policies, and procedures in alignment with international trade laws, regulations and best practices. * Monitor and interpret export control regulations, sanctions programs, customs requirements, and other relevant trade laws across jurisdictions. * Partner with business units to provide guidance on compliance risks related to sales, procurement, engineering, and supply chain activities. * Manage and conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and investigations to ensure adherence to compliance standards. * Deliver training and communications to employees worldwide to strengthen compliance awareness. * Interface with government agencies and regulators regarding trade compliance inquiries, licenses, and reporting. * Oversee export licensing, technology control plans, and classification processes for products and technologies. * Support customer and supplier information and certification requests related to trade compliance, including KYC questionnaires, end-use/end-user statements, and regulatory certifications. * Enhance customs compliance program, including implement and manage tariff mitigation strategies, Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification, country of origin determinations, and proper valuation of goods. * Collaborate with legal, finance, and other stakeholders to integrate compliance requirements into company operations. * Drive innovative compliance enhancement and automation efforts across the company. **Global Trade Operations Responsibilities *** Oversee end-to-end global trade operations, including import/export processes, documentation, and compliance. * Partner with supply chain, logistics providers, and customs brokers to ensure smooth, timely, and compliant movement of goods worldwide. * Support operational teams in resolving shipment, export/customs clearance, and regulatory challenges. * Coordinate export classifications, Harmonized System (HS) classifications, and import licensing requirements across multiple jurisdictions, including Canada, Thailand, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, the UK, Switzerland, and others. * Manage relationships with key trade partners, government authorities, and third-party service providers. * Monitor performance metrics, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives for trade operations. * Drive automation and digital solutions to enhance trade compliance and operational visibility. **Qualifications *** 18+ years of experience in export controls, sanctions, import compliance international trade law, and/or global trade operations required * Bachelors, Masters, MBA or JD preferred * Strong understanding of U.S.
export control, sanctions and customs regulations, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC sanctions, CBP regulations and related partner government agency requirements. * Ability to make difficult judgment calls and think creatively to generate possible solutions and options for the business, taking into account risks and tradeoffs. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work collaboratively across business units and jurisdictions and inspire groups to exceed goals. * Ability to drive enthusiasm and a sense of urgency to accomplish strategic goals. * Managerial courage to meet challenges productively and seek unique solutions to difficult issues.At Lumentum, you’ll join a global leader at the forefront of optical and photonic innovation.
