Our client is seeking a Purchaser responsible for managing the procurement of materials and supplies for commercial and residential construction projects. This role will work closely with project management teams and field supervisors to ensure timely sourcing, purchasing, and delivery of materials needed to successfully execute projects. The Purchaser will play a key role in vendor management, cost control, and supporting value engineering initiatives.

Duties

  • Build and maintain strong vendor and supplier relationships.
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Evaluate materials, tools, and supplies according to business and project criteria.
  • Perform detailed material and labor take-offs for residential and commercial construction projects.
  • Interpret detailed building plans to determine material needs.
  • Coordinate material deliveries with project managers and supervisors.
  • Prepare and issue purchase orders and agreements.
  • Approve and code invoices accurately by project.
  • Track, update, and retrieve purchasing information in business systems.
  • Communicate order status with vendors, employees, and project teams.
  • Verify shipments and follow up on shortages or delays.
  • Review job cost summaries bi-weekly and at project closeout with project managers.
  • Assist with inventory management and stock orders.
  • Stay informed on market trends, price fluctuations, and construction industry developments.
  • Identify cost-saving alternatives while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborate with accounting on job costs and purchasing power.
Qualifications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build effective relationships with coworkers, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Strong negotiation skills and deep knowledge of construction materials, services, and subcontractor relationships.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting commercial and residential plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and business application software for purchasing and resource planning.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and adapting to changing priorities.
  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's degree in business or related field preferred.
