This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: located in Qualification section. Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair industrial electrical wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, and outlet boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances. Test circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, amp meter, wattmeter, megger, and ohmmeter. Measures, cut threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits, pulls, and terminates wires to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, industrial equipment, and to power source. Coordinate with industrial electronic control repairman on more complex circuitry in troubleshooting, repairing, and testing electronic controlled equipment. Assures compliance with the National Electric Code and ensures safety requirements and housekeeping rules are followed to include proper use of personal protective equipment. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications About the Position: This position installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs industrial electric wiring systems and other electrical work. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision Must possess the ability to perform common duties which include reading and following wiring diagrams that specify where wiring, cables, fixtures, and controls are installed, repairing electrical wiring, controls, equipment, and fixtures, and making repairs such as tightening connections, insulating bare wire, and soldering loose leads to contact points. I can use a variety of test equipment such as test light, megger, voltmeter, power meter set, and other electrical meters to locate malfunctions. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires frequent walking, kneeling, climbing, bending, and working in strained and cramped positions, lifting and moving equipment weighing up to 35 pounds without assistance, and over 35 pounds with assistance from another worker or weight handling equipment. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outside shops and buildings. Subject to severe weather conditions and elements in emergency situations. Subject to chemical and steam burns. Subject to heat prostration from ovens, steam equipment, and heat treating equipment. Danger of falling from scaffold, ladders, catwalks, cranes, buckets, and roofs of heights in excess of 30 feet. Subject to dust, chemical, gas and various fumes, electrical shock, and/or burns. Work requires use of personal protective equipment such as, but not limited to, half/full face respirators, dusk masks, safety glasses, and shoes appropriate to the work are and work performed. Discomfort may be experienced while wearing protective equipment.
