Job Summary
This is a contract position lasting approximately 4 months in Lubbock, TX with the possibility of a travel position after job completion. Responsible for servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing, or installing electrical components in a residential or commercial setting. Technicians may be assigned to one or multiple jobs and must be available for after-hours emergency calls on occasion. The person who occupies this position must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of themselves or others in the workplace. This means that the individual must not pose a significant risk of substantial harm to health or safety that cannot be eliminated or reduced by reasonable accommodations. Essential Job Duties
- Must possess the ability to plan the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices (ohmmeters, volt meters, oscilloscopes) to ensure compatibility and safety.
- Use a variety of tools and equipment, including power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment (oscilloscopes, ammeters, test lamps).
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair and ensure compliance with codes.
- Place conduit and pipes in walls or other concealed areas and pull insulated wires or cables through conduit to complete circuits.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems or components using test equipment and hand tools to locate and correct problems.
- Select and use appropriate training methods and procedures for learning or teaching new tasks.
- Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment in accordance with local, state, and electrical codes.
- Perform electrical inspections and troubleshoot electrical issues.
- Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Install and connect wiring, outlets, switches, and fixtures.
- Test electrical systems for functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with other tradespeople to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean work area.
- Pre-job and pre-task planning.
- Identify behaviors and conditions that jeopardize the safety of others.
- Question the need for additional safety precautions when necessary for safe completion of the job.
- Inspect all tools and equipment before each use to ensure good working condition.
- Comply with site safety rules by following procedures and wearing prescribed PPE.
- Do not take directions or changes from clients without first checking with the Supervisor.
- Attend daily toolbox safety meetings and scheduled training sessions.
- Inspect the work site to ensure unsafe conditions do not exist.
Required Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent apprenticeship.
- Adherence to safety protocol and a drug-free environment.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in the relevant trade with knowledgeable understanding of the craft.
- Knowledge of safety rules and regulations and the ability to learn client and company policy.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and make decisions using FMM's core values of Quality, Teamwork, Pride, Passion, and Integrity.
- Proficient computer, text, and email skills.
- Proficient in using power tools and electrical testing equipment.
- Knowledge of the Electrical Code (NEC).
- Experience working with high voltage and low voltage systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical principles and concepts.
- Ability to build and install electrical systems in commercial and residential settings.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams.
- Basic knowledge of frame carpentry for installation purposes.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to pass a Fit for Duty screening.
- Conditions may include exposure to all weather (hot/cold/muddy), high noise, and proximity to moving mechanical parts and construction machinery.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Regular use of hands/arms and legs; hand/eye coordination required.
- Hearing and comprehension required for directions.
- Subject to physical labor on construction projects; may operate hand and power tools.
- Climb and maintain balance on steel/wood framework, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
- Must be able to grasp, lift, handle, and carry objects frequently.
- Position may require prolonged bending, twisting, walking, crawling, crouching, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing/pulling, standing, and lifting.
