Overview

Dental Assistant role at Inside Higher Ed in The Ohio State University College of Dentistry, Orthodontic Division. The position supports direct chairside orthodontic assisting, instrument processing, patient instruction, and administrative tasks related to orthodontic treatment.

Responsibilities

• Direct chairside orthodontic assisting for residents and faculty in the orthodontic clinic.
• Dispense, receive, process/sterilize and purchase instruments, equipment and supplies used in orthodontic treatment.
• Provide oral hygiene instructions and ensure efficient operation during faculty and clinical sessions.
• Fabricate vacuum-formed retainers, pours and trims models; organize records system; review financing options with new patients.
• Assist with maintaining documentation and records related to patient care and treatment.

Education/Experience Qualifications

• Required: High School diploma or GED, plus 2 years\' experience in dental office practices and procedures, dental operatory practices and procedures, four-handed assisting techniques, inventory record-keeping, care of dental equipment, using a computer.
• Desired: Orthodontic experience, experience with a wide variety of dental instruments, experience in an educational setting, computer literacy including Microsoft Office and email.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to use both hands with dexterity to manipulate instruments and dental equipment; operate dental hand pieces; use feet to control rheostat.
• Ability to sit/stand for duration of time; work from a dental stool; color differentiation; hand-eye coordination; visual acuity; effective communication.
• Exposure to bloodborne pathogens, chemical hazards, vibrating equipment, sharp instruments, and latex.

Screenings

This position requires successful completion of a criminal background check and drug and alcohol screening.

Work Schedule

Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm, 32 hours per week. Hours may vary.

Compensation

$21.35 - $27.88/hour based on years of experience.
