The organization is building software-enabled, hardware-integrated platforms that enhance precision, safety, and workflow efficiency in complex procedures. Headquartered in the Greater Boston area the company partners with leading hospitals and industry players to bring innovative solutions into clinical practice.
Position Summary: The Vice President of Research & Development will lead all engineering and product development activities. Reporting to the CEO, this executive will set the R&D vision, establish robust processes, and deliver regulated, commercially viable products. The VP will oversee multidisciplinary teams across software, systems, embedded, algorithms, and reliability engineering while representing the company externally.
Responsibilities: Define and implement R&D strategy aligned with company goals. Lead and mentor cross-functional teams (software, embedded, algorithms, systems, V&V). Translate advanced data science/vision technologies into workflow-integrated products. Ensure compliance with relevant standards (IEC 62304, ISO 13485, FDA QSR). Build scalable processes for V&V, release, and reliability. Partner with Clinical, Regulatory, and Commercial leadership. Serve as a technical leader with customers, partners, and investors.
Qualifications Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or related field 15+ years progressive R&D leadership in medtech, imaging, or surgical device fields. Proven success delivering regulated complex systems from concept to commercialization. Expertise in imaging, embedded systems, algorithms/AI, or systems engineering. Strong knowledge of design controls and medical device development lifecycles. Experience scaling high-performing engineering teams.
