About the Role

We are seeking an experienced

Intellectual Property Counsel

to join our in-house legal team. This role will be responsible for overseeing the company’s global IP portfolio, managing outside counsel relationships, and partnering closely with internal teams to protect and maximize the value of our intellectual property.

consumer packaged goods (CPG) sector with a strong focus on electronic products

, so prior experience with patents and IP matters in this space is highly valued. The ideal candidate is a

registered patent attorney

with hands-on experience in both patent prosecution and litigation strategy, and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and business functions.

Key Responsibilities

Outside Counsel Management:

Engage, oversee, and manage outside counsel for patent prosecution, litigation, and other IP-related matters, ensuring alignment with company goals and budget. Portfolio Management:

Maintain and develop the company’s IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and other proprietary assets. Patent Strategy:

Partner with engineering and product teams to identify and evaluate patentable inventions and advise on patent filing opportunities. Freedom to Operate (FTO):

Research and assess third-party patents, conduct risk assessments, and advise business stakeholders on non-infringement strategies. Litigation & Dispute Resolution:

Support litigation matters, including case strategy, document management, settlement discussions, and communication with business leadership. Cross-Functional Collaboration:

Provide clear, practical IP guidance to executives, engineers, and business leaders. Risk Management & Compliance:

Monitor IP trends, regulatory developments, and competitor activity to proactively mitigate risks and protect company assets.

Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to at least one U.S. state bar. USPTO registration preferred (Registered Patent Attorney). 5–10 years of experience practicing intellectual property law, including significant in-house or law firm experience. Strong background in

consumer products and/or electronics

highly preferred. Hands-on experience with patent prosecution, IP portfolio management, and IP litigation. Excellent negotiation, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work independently while building strong collaborative relationships across functions.

The expected base salary range for this role is

$200,000 – $300,000 annually

, plus eligibility for discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and qualifications.
