Revenue Collections Agent
General Description:
This is an administrative position. The incumbent performs investigative and follow-up field and office work in collecting current and delinquent personal property and real estate taxes, State income taxes, dog license fees and returned checks and collections for various County Departments. Organization:
The Revenue Collections Agent reports to a Business Manager and supervises no staff. Essential Functions: Analyzes the more difficult tax accounts to determine the best means of collection and maintains a follow-up file on these. Appears in court for the County to obtain judgments. Assists taxpayers with difficult or unusual problems regarding payments. Explains requirements for compliance with the laws concerning enforcement of payment of delinquent taxes. Handles correspondence dealing with complex problems and questions of tax liability. Initiates tax liens and summonses. Maintains records on all delinquent taxes collected. Researches delinquent accounts for correct addresses, employment and banking data to aid in collection. Assists taxpayers in working out payment plans based upon ability and legal requirements. Performs related work as assigned. Working Conditions: A. Hazards: None Known B. Environment: Office C. Physical Effort: Minimal D. Non-exempt Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to interact positively with the public is required. General knowledge of the laws pertaining to the collection of delinquent accounts. Excellent oral and written communication skills. General computer literacy or skills preferably in Microsoft Office computer programs is desired. Basic knowledge of records maintenance and ability to maintain general office records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials, employees and the general public. Education, Experience and Training:
High school or equivalent required with at least two (2) years' customer service experience preferred
OR
Any equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training sufficient to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and abilities is acceptable. Special Conditions: Serves at the will of the Treasurer Criminal Records Check, including fingerprinting Twelve-month probationary period Revision Date:
