About the Role
Reporting to the HR Director, they're seeking an experienced Human Resources Manager to lead their HR department and support a dynamic law firm environment. This key role oversees a small HR team and the Houston receptionist, acting as the firm’s go-to resource for HR, payroll, and benefits administration. The position manages full-cycle non-attorney recruiting, employee relations, compliance, compensation, and wellness initiatives while contributing to strategic HR goals and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop the HR team and Houston receptionist.
- Along with the various Office Administrators, will manage end-to-end recruiting for all non-attorney roles, including job postings, resume review, interviews, and reference checks.
- Partner with the Director of HR to evaluate and administer firmwide benefits (health, disability, life insurance, 401(k), FSA/HSA, COBRA, and state-specific plans).
- Oversee payroll processing and reconciliations for all employees.
- Administer leave management programs (FMLA, ADA, state-specific leaves) and provide guidance to managers and staff.
- Support staff performance evaluation processes and conduct annual reviews for HR staff and receptionist.
- Address employee relations matters—mentoring, training, coaching, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with HR policies, procedures, and employment laws; recommend updates as needed.
- Assist with HR budgeting, financial reporting, and audit compliance.
- Drive HR department strategic goals, including technology and process improvements.
- Coordinate Houston employee engagement activities.
Qualifications
- 5–7 years’ HR experience in a law firm or professional services setting.
- At least 3 years in an HR management role.
Proficiency with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., UKG) and advanced Microsoft Office skills.
Preferred
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, or PHR/SPHR certification.
- Multi-state HR compliance knowledge.
- Experience leading HR process improvements and change-management initiatives.
Schedule
Work from home Mondays and in office Tuesday-Friday.
