Overview

The Tyndale Company is seeking a Human Resources Generalist to join our award-winning HR team in Houston, TX. The Generalist will work collaboratively as a member of the HR team to support the company’s overall strategic vision through providing HR excellence. The Generalist will have responsibility in multiple functional areas of HR including benefits, recruiting, employee relations, performance management, safety and compliance, and reporting.

Location and Schedule

Hybrid/Remote: This opportunity requires candidates to work 4 days a week onsite, and 1 day a week remotely. Candidates must reside within a commutable distance from our Houston Distribution Center in North Houston and Corporate Office in City Centre for onsite work as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Benefits administration including claims resolution, change reporting, and communication of benefit information to employees
  • Coordinate open enrollment processes, including scheduling meetings and delivering open enrollment communications and training materials
  • Provide information to employees for benefits eligibility and elections; ensure timely completion of enrollments with understanding of look-back periods, eligibility dates, and qualifying events
  • Serve as liaison between employees and third-party administrators and brokers on eligibility and enrollment matters
  • Prepare and submit all employee MERP requests for reimbursement of deductible payments according to the company plan
  • Monitor and manage leaves of absence (FMLA/STD/LTD) and communicate leaves to employees and vendors
  • Execute Wellness Initiative activities and support wellness programs at Houston locations
  • Administer the company’s 401(k) plan, including aiding audits and related duties
  • Support COBRA administration and ensure compliance with benefit eligibility
  • Administer benefits programs and related compliance tasks

Employee Relations

  • Administer HR plans and procedures for all employees; assist in policy development and updates
  • Update Handbook policies and communicate changes to employees
  • Interpret policies, advise managers and supervisors, and address employee concerns
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues; conduct investigations
  • Conduct exit interviews and analyze findings
  • Plan and execute Employee Engagement initiatives and events
  • Represent the company at unemployment hearings, if applicable

Performance Management

  • Assist in administering performance evaluation process, including entering reviews in UKG, aiding goal setting, and advising managers
  • Coach managers to improve relationships, morale, productivity, and retention; conduct regular 1:1 meetings
  • Assist with drafting and executing performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions

Safety & Compliance

  • Serve on the Safety Committee and provide input on injuries and incidents
  • Ensure compliance with new hire safety training and ongoing trainings
  • Conduct safety investigations and complete injury/incident reports
  • Prepare and post OSHA 300 logs; manage Workers’ Compensation renewals
  • Update physician panels and WC claim reporting instructions; arrange Medicare and 401(k) notices as needed
  • Complete EEO-1 and Vets reporting and other compliance reporting
  • Ensure I-9 compliance through E-Verify
  • Develop annual employee training and leadership development programs; maintain LMS modules

Recruiting & Onboarding

  • Conduct full-cycle recruitment for exempt and non-exempt roles, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, reference checks, and offers
  • Develop proactive recruiting strategies to ensure adequate applicant flow
  • Support pipelines with passive and active candidates across channels
  • Build relationships with local technical schools and colleges to facilitate pipelines
  • Coordinate with hiring managers to determine temporary staffing needs; ensure temp staffing needs are met
  • Maintain clear communication with applicants about status and benefits
  • Discuss benefit offerings and eligibility with candidates
  • Perform comprehensive onboarding and orientation for new hires; ensure completion of new-hire training

HRMS and Reporting

  • Conduct bi-weekly payroll processes and maintain payroll records
  • Write and maintain HR reports and ad-hoc report requests; serve as main point-of-contact for reporting
  • Verify employment requests; act as SME on HRMS and time-tracking systems
  • Apply knowledge of legal requirements to reduce risk and ensure compliance
  • Assist with surveys and inter-departmental research; participate in special projects as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, I/O Psychology, Business or related field
  • SHRM-CP/PHR certification required
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as an HR Generalist with responsibilities in employee relations, performance management, leave administration, and benefits
  • Solid knowledge of federal and state laws; FMLA/ADA experience
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills; advanced Excel preferred
  • Experience with HRMS (UKG/Ultimate Software) preferred
  • Experience with Affirmative Action Plans a plus
  • Strong customer service focus, sense of urgency, and confidentiality
  • Ability to travel overnight if required
