CWS Worker
plays a critical role in supporting child safety, family stability, and long-term well-being. Working within the Child Welfare Services (CWS) Referral Program, the CWS Worker helps families reduce risk by connecting them to community-based resources and services. Through consistent outreach, assessment, and solution-focused support, this position strengthens families, helps them remain together, and fosters safer, healthier environments. Key Responsibilities
Conduct weekly home visits to assess child safety and identify risk concerns.
Apply critical thinking and a solution-focused approach to address family needs and challenges.
Provide referrals and link families to community-based resources, such as: Parenting support and education
Short-term in-home assistance
Medical care
Other tailored services based on individual family needs
Promote protective factors and build upon family strengths to reduce risk and enhance functioning.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field required.
1–2 years of experience working with children, families, or at-risk populations.
Experience with trauma, mental health, substance use, or domestic violence is a plus.
Familiarity with community resources and services preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Open to reflective practice and supporting multi-stressed families.
Certifications & Licensure Must obtain IDCFS CWEL, CERAP, and CANS certifications through Illinois DCFS training.
Must complete and maintain First Aid and CPR certification within 3 months of hire.
Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal vehicle required.
Clear driving record.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
Hourly Rate:
$22.00 – $24.00 (depending on experience)
