Position Summary: CWS Worker The CWS Worker plays a critical role in supporting child safety, family stability, and long-term well-being. This position operates within the Child Welfare Services (CWS) Referral Program, helping families reduce risk by connecting them to community-based resources and services. The CWS Worker helps families remain together and function more safely through ongoing assessment, outreach, and solution-focused support.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct weekly home visits to assess safety and risk concerns impacting children. Use critical thinking and a solution-focused approach to address family needs and challenges. Provide referrals and link families to community services, including: Parenting support and education Short-term in-home assistance Medical care Other tailored services based on family-specific needs Promote protective factors and encourage family strengths to reduce risks and enhance functioning.
Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or a related Human Services field required. 1–2 years of experience working with children, families, or at-risk populations. Experience with trauma, mental health, substance use, or domestic violence is a plus. Familiarity with community resources and services preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office. Open to reflective practice and serving multi-stressed families.
Certifications & Licensure: Obtain an IDCFS CWEL, CERAP, and CANS certification through the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services training.
Must complete and maintain First Aid and CPR certification within 3 months of employment. Valid driver’s license, current auto insurance, and reliable personal vehicle required. Must have a clear driving record. Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
