Job Description Salary: $23-$28 per hour Gymnastics Coordinator
Job Description The Gymnastics Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership and direction for recreational gymnastics programs. This includes planning class curriculum, supervising staff, ensuring participant safety, and maintaining strong communication with parents, staff, and park district leadership. This part-time role requires a professional, positive, and organized individual who can manage multiple responsibilities, lead by example, and maintain a safe and engaging environment for participants and staff. Duties fall within the medium/heavy work range (lifting 4575 lbs.) and involve spotting and equipment handling.
Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years of age High school diploma or equivalent required; some college preferred Minimum 13 years of experience as a gymnast and/or gymnastics instructor or coach Experience working with children and youth Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain within first 3 months; training provided) USA Gymnastics Safety Certification and Professional Membership (district-paid; required) by February 1. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills Ability to spot gymnasts and lift equipment (up to 75 lbs.)
Immediate Supervisor: The Gymnastics Coordinator is responsible to the Recreation Supervisor-Athletics
Essential Functions: Plan, organize, and coordinate gymnastics classes Supervise daily activities of gymnastics instructors to ensure quality instruction and safety Train, schedule, and evaluate instructors; make recommendations for hiring Create and distribute staff schedules each session Lead gymnastics staff meetings and trainings Monitor class ratios and staff performance to ensure efficiency and safety Maintain program policies and communicate them clearly to staff and parents Assist in preparing seasonal brochure content and promotional material Attend staff and planning meetings with the Recreation Supervisor
Instructional Responsibilities: Provide written class curriculums and assist with or lead class instruction as needed Arrive 15 minutes early to set up for classes and prepare the gym space Lead warm-ups and teach age-appropriate skills and drills Spot participants safely and effectively to prevent injuries Adapt lessons as needed to meet the needs of all participants Track attendance, make-up classes, and student progress Maintain and update skill progression tracking for each student Make final recommendations for advancement to the next level
Facility & Equipment: Set up and take down equipment as needed for classes Conduct regular inspections of equipment and gym space Enforce proper spotting techniques and ensure skill development follows safe progression Immediately report equipment issues to the Recreation Supervisor
Communication & Customer Service: Serve as liaison to parents and participants; respond to concerns in a timely, professional manner Encourage a positive environment that supports participant growth and enjoyment Respond to phone calls, emails, and inquiries regarding the gymnastics program Provide exceptional customer service aligned with District standards
Class Instruction Responsibilities: Arrive 15 minutes before class for setup Lead or assist in warm-ups and instruction Teach skills appropriate to participant level and ability Keep participants engaged and focused Adapt teaching methods for safety and inclusion Spot students correctly to prevent injury Assist with long-term class planning for skill development Track attendance and make-ups Maintain skill tracking system and communicate progress to parents Recommend class advancement when appropriate
Psychological Considerations: The gymnastics coordinator may need to resolve differences and problems that arise with the children or parents or instructors. May also have to work under stressful situations when First Aid, CPR or the AED is required.
Physiological Considerations: This position requires lifting of gym mats and equipment and also lifting and spotting the participants.
Cognitive Considerations: The ability to use good judgment it necessary as well as a positive, friendly, and outgoing personality.
