Website UI/UX Designer
to support federal government digital initiatives by designing accessible, user-centered, and visually engaging web solutions. The ideal candidate will have proven experience creating wireframes, mock-ups, and prototypes in Figma, with expertise in federal accessibility standards and compliance. This position requires knowledge of Drupal-based platforms, the 21st Century IDEA Act, and Section 508/WCAG 2.1 requirements. The successful candidate will work closely with developers, program managers, and federal stakeholders to deliver digital experiences that meet both user needs and federal mandates. Candidates must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. The Website Designer's key responsibilities include: Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mock-ups using Figma to guide Drupal-based website development. Design intuitive, accessible, and responsive user interfaces that align with federal standards. Ensure compliance with Section 508, WCAG 2.1, and the 21st Century IDEA Act throughout the design lifecycle. Validate accessibility using tools such as SiteImprove, Axe, or WAVE, and document compliance through VPATs. Establish and maintain consistent color palettes, typography, and design systems that comply with accessibility and federal branding requirements. Collaborate with Drupal developers to translate UI/UX designs into functional implementations. Conduct usability testing and incorporate feedback into iterative design improvements. Contribute to Agile ceremonies and work in close coordination with cross-functional federal project teams. Required Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in graphic design, Human-Computer Interaction, Web Design, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent professional experience). Advanced certifications in UI/UX design, accessibility, or federal digital services standards are preferred. 4+ years of professional UI/UX design experience with a focus on websites or digital platforms. Proficiency in Figma for wireframing, prototyping, and creating mock-ups. Demonstrated knowledge of Drupal theming and front-end considerations. Strong understanding of Section 508 accessibility compliance, WCAG 2.1 guidelines, and federal digital standards. Experience preparing VPAT documentation and conducting accessibility validation. Familiarity with accessibility and quality assurance tools such as SiteImprove, Axe, or WAVE. Expertise in creating accessible color palettes and design systems. Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to present design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Experience with Drupal 9/10 environments. Knowledge of the 21st Century IDEA Act and federal digital transformation initiatives. Familiarity with front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, Sass) to support development collaboration. Prior experience supporting federal government contracts or digital modernization projects. Certifications in accessibility, usability, or UX design (e.g., IAAP CPACC, Web Accessibility Specialist, Nielsen Norman UX Certification).
