The Waste Treatment Supervisor's primary duties and responsibilities include:
Responsible for operations and control of incoming and wastewater treatment, and landfill systems. Prepares operating and capital budgets. Evaluates and conducts needed tests for wastewater treatment for compliance with WPDES permits and provides recordkeeping, reporting, and quality assurance associated with these tests. Supervises and leads a team of hourly operators.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Champions and leads the daily execution of the Waste Treatment Management Operating System. Ensures compliance and fosters a continuous improvement attitude within the Water and Waste Treatment and Mill Organization.
Participates as part of the mill team to define and solve inter-department and multi-discipline problems
Coordinates repairs with maintenance department and outside contractors
Prepares Capital Budget Plans
Prepares and implements yearly operating budget
Develops and implements department safety program
Supervises, trains, coaches and develops the departments hourly employees
Supervises department systems, operations and solves problems
Direct activities of outside contractors in related areas such as the landfill operation
Administers the union labor agreement and all company rules and policies
Evaluates wastewater treatment plant operating variables such as sludge age, sludge volume indexes, respiration rates, oxygen uptake rates, nutrient requirements and recommends appropriate operational changes
Collects and summarizes information for mandatory WDNR and EPA reports concerning water, air, and solid waste permits in collaboration with mill Environmental Manager
Coordinates sampling, interprets, and reports results of whole effluent toxicity tests for submission to the WDNR and EPA
Assists in performing tasks necessary to demonstrate mill compliance with the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, SARA, and related specific environment laws and regulations.
Collects wastewater and solid waste (sludge) samples and conducts necessary tests to demonstrate compliance with WDNR and EPA permits.
Maintains laboratory equipment and sewer samplers; inspects landfill monitoring and leachate wells; prepares chemical reagents for WDNR and EPA permit compliance testing.
Maintains laboratory information systems, including bench sheets, notebooks, and computer files, as well as WDNR required QA/QC documentation records and control charts.
Conducts Wisconsin State Lab of Hygiene Blind Standard and Lab Proficiency Tests. Maintains accredited lab status.
Conducts quarterly Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program monitoring and observations per WDNR requirements.
Achieves and maintains Wisconsin (WDNR) Wastewater Operations Certification, Smoke Readers Certification, and Landfill Managers Certification.
Maintains records for laboratory and orders supplies. Inventories hazardous waste in lab and coordinates removal.
Collection and processing of paperwork for dangerous goods samples
Complete NR101 sampling and reporting
Prep Beneficial Reuse Applications
Complete Quarterly WDNR Landfill Surcharge reports
Prepare and submit Landfill ground water reports
Performs other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
Excellent attendance and punctuality in daily activities and long-term projects.
Qualifications
Skills & Experience:
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with multiple stakeholders.
Demonstrated leadership experience.
Certifications and Licenses:
Wisconsin (WDNR) Wastewater Operations Certification
Wisconsin (WDNR) Landfill Managers Certifications
Smoke Readers Certification (EPA Method 9)
Education:
Bachelor's in environmental science, resource management, or related field is preferred.
Please note that this position is NOT a remote or hybrid position; the successful candidate must work from Combined Locks, WI facility.
