Payroll Specialist – Job Summary
This position is responsible for full-cycle payroll operations, including processing payroll for all employees, managing payroll vendor payments, maintaining records, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax and regulatory requirements. The role also involves coordinating benefits, processing deductions and garnishments, preparing reports (e.g., W-2s, quarterly filings), and responding to payroll-related inquiries. Strong collaboration with internal staff and external agencies is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in education-related environments
Spanish language proficiency (NOT required)
Key Responsibilities:
Maintain and update payroll systems and employee timekeeping records
Process monthly payroll and generate/distribute payroll checks
Handle all employee and employer benefit payments and insurance coordination
Ensure timely payment of payroll liabilities and taxes
Act as primary contact for payroll deductions and garnishments
Generate quarterly and year-end payroll reports (e.g., W-2s, tax filings)
Provide payroll data for administrative use and departmental reporting
Respond to verification of employment and salary requests
Attend payroll-related meetings and trainings
Maintain professionalism in communication with staff and external contacts
Perform additional payroll-related recordkeeping and data management as needed
Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent
Background check clearance
Proficiency with computer systems and ability to learn new software
Understanding of payroll taxes and regulations
