Position Overview
The Creative Director is a visionary force behind Miami Dade College’s brand expression, leading a dynamic team of creative professionals and collaborating with top-tier agencies and vendors to deliver bold, compelling, and unforgettable campaigns. This position is responsible for elevating the College’s visual identity across every touchpoint—from enrollment campaigns and digital experiences to physical signage and out-of-home media. The Creative Director leverages emerging technologies and storytelling techniques to craft creative content that is accessible to all and communicates Miami Dade College’s bold vision. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.
What you will be doing
Leads, inspires, and mentors a team of creative professionals to push boundaries and deliver exceptional, brand-elevating work
Provides guidance and direction to ensure the highest quality of creative output and adherence to project timelines and objectives
Fosters a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages creativity and professional growth
Leads the ideation and execution of breakthrough brand and enrollment campaigns that captivate audiences and amplify the College’s voice across all platforms
Oversees the design and production of marketing materials, including print and digital to streaming, signage, and multimedia—ensuring each piece is visually stunning, strategically sound, and on-brand
Partners with external agencies and vendors to ensure creative deliverables meet quality standards, timelines, and budget requirements
Ensures all creative work is accessible to all and in compliance with ADA standards
Ensures consistency in design and messaging across all marketing channels and platforms
Stays abreast of industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to inform creative direction and innovation
Develops and maintains creative guidelines and standards to ensure brand consistency and integrity across all marketing materials and communications
Provides guidance and training to internal stakeholders on brand identity, design principles, and best practices
Oversees all work completed by the design team, ensuring it meets the highest standards of quality, accuracy, and professionalism
Conducts regular reviews and evaluations to assess performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement
Performs other related duties as assigned.
What you need to succeed
Master’s degree from an accredited college / university in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Marketing, Communications, or a related field and five (5) years of experience in design, marketing, brand development, or a related field with a proven track record of success; or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college / university and nine (9) years of directly related experience
Must demonstrate a strong design and creative direction background with a portfolio of work
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Proven ability to motivate, engage and work collaboratively across teams and departments
Experience and ability to work with creative staff and provide leadership and direction in a creative team environment
Proven mentoring and team-building skills, including strong ability to provide clear creative direction and helpful feedback
Excellent creativity, graphic design and communication skills. Expertise and demonstrated ability in design fundamentals
Proven understanding of brand architecture, brand identity and brand positioning
Ability to translate communications strategies into engaging, authentic, and effective creative work
Knowledge of current industry trends and techniques, including video production, user experience design, social media trends, and other digital communications approaches
Understanding of marketing in print, electronic and online media and how each differs in execution
Demonstrated written and oral skills; success in performing complex tasks; prioritizing multiple projects; investigating, analyzing information and drawing conclusions
Proficiency in design software, including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and other relevant tools and Microsoft Office suite
Excellent presentation skills and communication abilities; capable of representing the department and its work to college leadership
Experience following and improving production processes across creative formats, including brand, print, editorial, digital, and video projects
Ability to meet deadlines and possesses extensive experience in leading and managing creative teams in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of Associated Press style
Ability to work flexible hours that can include weekends and evenings
Ability to travel to various campus locations as needed
Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff
Essential Position
This function / position has been designated as essential. This means that when the College is faced with an institutional emergency, employees in such positions may be required to remain at their work location or to report to work to protect, recover, and continue operations at the College.
