Library Data Analyst – Charlotte Mecklenburg Library

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Library is one of America’s leading urban public libraries, serving a diverse metropolitan area in North Carolina. The library serves approximately one million residents across Charlotte and the surrounding towns. We deliver excellent library services and programs to foster reading, learning, and access to information across 20 locations plus online and targeted outreach.

Location

Library Administration Center, 510 Stitt Road, Charlotte, NC 28213

Schedule

Full-time, benefit-eligible, 40 hours per week on-site (no remote option). Day shift 8:00am – 5:00pm. Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required.

Responsibilities

  • Document, collect, and gather data from various library systems, databases, and sources.
  • Clean, validate, and transform data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity.
  • Develop and implement data collection methods and procedures to capture relevant information.
  • Analyze data using statistical techniques and data mining tools to identify patterns, trends, and correlations.
  • Generate meaningful insights and recommendations to support evidence-based decision‑making.
  • Create actionable reports, dashboards, and visualizations to present data findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with different library departments to identify data needs and develop strategies to address them.
  • Assist in evaluating and implementing library programs and initiatives using data-driven approaches.
  • Maintain data management systems with documentation, quality, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Act as a primary liaison with external partners to coordinate and report performance data.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a related field.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Combination of relevant education and experience accepted.
  • Licenses and Certifications: May require a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License; County driving privileges may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Data Analytics, Public Administration, Information Science, or a related field; experience in public or nonprofit settings preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of library operations and services, library management systems, data privacy and confidentiality, research methodologies, data visualization, statistical analysis techniques, data cleaning and quality management, data manipulation and querying (SQL, Excel, OpenRefine), data security and governance.
  • Skills: data collection and extraction, data cleaning and preprocessing, data analysis and statistics, data visualization, database management, statistical software (R, SPSS, SAS) and visualization tools (Tableau, Power BI), problem-solving, communication and presentation, continuous learning and adaptability.
  • Abilities: identify data needs, manage large datasets, clean and preprocess data, apply statistical analyses, generate insights, create reports and dashboards, collaborate with stakeholders, identify trends and actionable insights, troubleshoot data issues.

Computer Skills

Advanced proficiency with analytic and technical software (e.g., ACL or equivalent), Microsoft Office Suite, Power BI, etc.

Work Environment

Office setting with moderate noise.
