Mechanical Design Engineer (Project Engineer)

Collinsville, OK Compensation: • $100K–$130K based on experience • Bonus: Performance-based (measured by design KPIs) About the Opportunity LHH is partnering with a fast-growing engineering and manufacturing organization on a critical search for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their collaborative team in Collinsville, OK. This role is focused on the technical design and development of
industrial steam boiler systems , specifically the Firetube product line. With a legacy of high-quality engineering, our client is scaling operations and investing heavily in product innovation and design infrastructure. This is a hands-on, project-based role requiring strong proficiency with ASME Section I and Section VIII pressure vessel design, mechanical calculations, and CAD tools such as SolidWorks and Inventor. Candidates with a background in boilers, pressure vessels, HRSG systems, or heat exchangers will find this opportunity an excellent fit for their technical experience and growth ambitions. Key Responsibilities • Design and develop custom-engineered firetube boilers, pressure vessels, and related combustion equipment per ASME Section I and Section VIII • Perform mechanical calculations using spreadsheets and formula-based code compliance tools • Generate technical documentation and 3D models using SolidWorks and AutoCAD/Inventor • Lead troubleshooting efforts for shop and field issues, identifying root causes and implementing corrective design updates • Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, QA, Purchasing, Production, and Aftermarket teams • Support ongoing engineering improvement initiatives and product development • Assist with QA/QC documentation updates and engineering standardization efforts Must-Have Qualifications •
3+ years of experience designing boilers, pressure vessels, HRSG systems, or heat exchangers • Strong knowledge of ASME Section I (boilers) and/or Section VIII (pressure vessels) • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field • Proficiency with SolidWorks and/or Inventor CAD platforms • Familiarity with combustion equipment: wind box burners, gun-type burners, scroll burners • Ability to interpret and validate engineering spreadsheets and design calculations • Strong communication skills and collaborative mindset Preferred Qualifications • 5+ years of experience in boiler/pressure vessel design • Experience with NFPA codes and pressure combustion systems • Supervisory experience in an engineering or drafting team • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Structural discipline • Experience with Inventor (direction of future CAD environment) • Knowledge of ISO 9000 • Experience with pressure combustion and ancillary equipment
