Overview
We are recruiting a Business Analyst to support the Department of Defense (DoD), Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Financial Management Directorate (FMD). WHS provides a wide range of enterprise shared services to DoD headquarters, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and DoD components. The ideal candidate will work as part of a larger team to collect data and financial performance metrics from senior stakeholders across the DoD to generate dashboards and executive-level briefs.
Responsibilities

- Assist FMD Assistant Directors (ADs) with the monthly preparation of the Resource Strategy Board (RSB) brief.
- Provide administrative support for RSB preparation including the collection, coordination, or preparation of any necessary pre-brief materials and metrics.
- Conduct research and analyze financial/budget data from various systems and tools. Conduct variance analysis and perform data reconciliations. Provide data analysis and data visualization support to derive actionable insights using tools MS Excel, Access, and other MS Office suite applications.
- Prepare routine correspondence, reports, and briefings, and prepare and deliver actionable information in presentations appropriate for senior-level managers and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with customers, management, stakeholders, functional, technical, budget counterparts within WHS and across the DOD to obtain an in-depth understanding of the various process and documentation requirements.
Qualifications
Skills/Qualifications:Critical thinking is a must. The ideal candidate has experience analyzing and synthesizing complex data into digestible products and written content. A self-starter, capable of seamless work individually or in a team environment.
- Experience working in the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) Staff or Component of the Secretary of a Military Department is highly valued.
- Excellent technical skills, organizational and planning skills, communication, and problem-solving skills. Candidate is adaptable and customer service oriented.
- Familiarity with and experience working with large datasets or databases. Specifically, the ideal candidate has experience building and operating financial models and a data warehouse. Candidate possesses strong quantitative ability and a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Experience with analyzing past trends, monitoring workflow, making predictions, developing business process models, recommending enhancements and assisting customers in making business process decisions.
- Demonstrated data analysis and visualization experience with one or more leading COTS analytic and presentation solutions including MS Excel, Tableau, Qlik Sense, and other MS Office suite applications.
- Supportive of and collaborates effectively with co-workers to provide high quality outcomes in support of client requirements. Candidate takes initiative to improve processes and promote quality and applies feedback to improve performance.
- High standards for professional conduct in dealing with co-workers and clients. Candidate exercises solid judgement in decision-making.
- Understanding of the DoD budget processes, systems, structures, policy, and guidance desirable.
Experience and Education:
- This position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher as well as a minimum of 2-3 years of professional experience. Must be a U.S. citizen.
