Highly respected general contractor with a strong track record in DSA and healthcare projects across California. With a reputation for quality, integrity, and delivering complex projects for school districts, healthcare providers, and public entities, we are seeking a Preconstruction Estimator/Director to join their team and preconstruction efforts on high-profile projects.
Position Summary
The Preconstruction Estimator/Director is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of preconstruction, estimating, and early project planning. This individual will partner closely with clients, architects, and project executives to develop accurate budgets, detailed estimates, and preconstruction strategies that position projects for successful delivery. The role requires experience with large-scale general contractors and a strong background in DSA and/or healthcare projects.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the preconstruction and estimating team for multiple projects simultaneously, from conceptual through GMP and final budgets
Prepare detailed cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, bid packages, and subcontractor scopes for DSA and healthcare projects
Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and constructability
Develop value engineering options and strategies to maintain design intent while managing cost and schedule
Oversee subcontractor prequalification, solicitation, and bid leveling
Provide leadership and mentorship to junior estimators and preconstruction staff
Collaborate with operations and project management teams to ensure smooth transition from preconstruction to execution
Maintain strong relationships with clients, architects, engineers, and trade partners
Represent the company in pre-bid meetings, interviews, and client presentations
Qualifications
10+ years of progressive experience in estimating and preconstruction with a large general contractor
Proven experience leading complex projects over $30M+ in value
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
Advanced knowledge of estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, WinEst, Sage, ProEst, Procore, Bluebeam)
Ability to manage multiple pursuits with competing deadlines
Strong leadership, communication, and client-facing skills
Demonstrated ability to negotiate and build relationships with clients, architects, and subcontractors
