The Director, Brand Marketing and Communications, oversees two mission-critical functions that support how the Society presents itself and communicates to a global optics and photonics community.

The role holds responsibility for managing the Society’s brand and effectively disseminating organizational values through marketing and communications efforts at the corporate level. ResponsibilitiesBrand Management and Marketing

To increase understanding of the Society’s global presence and its core values, the position develops an annual brand marketing and communications plan. The plan leverages relevant channels and products across the organization as well as in the optics and photonics industry at large. Monitors corporate-wide application of Optica’s brand and serves as an internal resource and guide for adherence to brand guidelines. Provides training and feedback to those employing the brand in their programs, products and/or services to ensure brand integrity. Evaluates, updates and adapts the Optica master brand guidelines and house style guidelines from time to time to ensure continuous improvement and enhancements for successful and consistent brand application across all marketing and communication channels. Manages brand representation at select Optica Events, including on-site promotion opportunities, the Optica Booth, signage and set pieces. Collaborates with the membership marketing team on Optica booth design and member lounge. Also oversees design and production of branded promotional items. Manages outsourced graphic design services vendor to support promotion and communications needs across the organization. Ensures that design projects adhere to brand and style guidelines. Manages advertising efforts at the corporate level and curates the selection of house ads for the Optics and Photonics member magazine. Convenes monthly meetings for marketing and communications team members to discuss best practices, cross-promotion opportunities and key messaging. Communications

Leads corporate communications efforts for external audiences; manages team responsible for corporate social media channels and media relations. Supports a story-based, member-focused communications strategy. Provides messaging and design support for the Executive Office through organizational presentations and remarks. Develops and effectively manages budgets that support brand-specific initiatives and communications efforts, including media relations and social media. Education and Experience

Four-year college degree required with an emphasis in marketing preferred. 6+ years professional experience in brand management, enterprise marketing and/or communications. Experience with a scientific non-profit or an organization with an expansive global presence is preferred. 3+ years professional experience with direct supervisory responsibilities. Skills and Abilities

Dynamic and creative individual with strong budgetary, analytical and organizational skills and the ability to assess and refine processes and project workflows. Knowledgeable in the complete marketing cycle, including concept, design, production and dissemination. Highly skilled in understanding the tenets of good design and its intersection with effective brand strategy. Detail oriented, able to meet multiple deadlines and work independently in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with a wide variety of constituencies, including within and across the organization’s marketing teams. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including proofreading and copyediting. Technologies

Knowledgeable of technology solutions and platforms that will lead to improvements in marketing and communications efforts and/or increase efficiencies preferred. Experienced user of Adobe Creative Suite applications to effectively oversee projects involving design/layout, image management and email production. Familiarity with data management tools; intermediate capabilities in Microsoft Excel, Access or Google Sheets required. Apply Here
