Bus Driver
: Freeport, Illinois – 1st
Shift
Our customer in Freeport, Illinois is hiring a Bus Driver to join their team and help provide safe, reliable transportation for local passengers. This position does not require a CDL and is ideal for individuals who enjoy helping others and are committed to safety and professionalism.
Responsibilities of the
Bus Driver
:
Vehicle Operation:
Drive Senior Resource Center/Pretzel City Area Transit vehicles safely, following all traffic laws and agency policies. Transport clients and authorized items according to scheduled routes and assignments. Passenger Assistance & Safety:
Provide courteous, hands-on assistance to all passengers as needed—from door to vehicle and back. Operate wheelchair lifts in accordance with training and safety procedures. Inform passengers of onboard rules (e.g., seat belts, no smoking, no standing during movement). Know and follow emergency procedures and report accidents immediately as per agency policy. Vehicle Maintenance:
Complete daily pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections. Ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled, and in good working order. Report any mechanical issues to the Maintenance Coordinator and deliver vehicles for service when needed. Training:
Attend required training, including Drug & Alcohol Testing, Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance, and Emergency Procedures. CPR certification may be required. Record Keeping:
Accurately complete daily trip logs, inspection checklists, fuel records, and donation records. Project Income:
Handle client donations and fares in accordance with agency guidelines. Tips and gifts are not permitted. Bus Driver
Requirements and Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Driver’s License with appropriate classification. Safe driving record—no reckless or major violations in the past 3 years. Must pass DOT physical, pre-employment drug test, and background check. Must pass knowledge and driving tests administered by the Transportation Coordinator. Familiarity with traffic laws and geographic knowledge of Freeport and Stephenson County. Physical ability to assist passengers, including those using wheelchairs or with limited mobility.
