Position: RN – L&D / Postpartum / Well-Baby Nursery (Combined Unit)
Trauma Level: III
Care Setting: Acute

Shift Details:

• 12-hour Days (7 AM – 7 PM)
• Every other weekend required
• First to float
• 36 guaranteed hours/week
• Contract: 13 weeks
• Schedule: Self-scheduling to some degree; manager balances coverage; schedules released 30–45 days in advance
• Holiday coverage: Rotates with perm staff
• May take call if desired

Unit Information:

• Combined unit: L&D, Postpartum, Well-Baby Nursery
• Beds: 10
• Volume: ~30–40 deliveries per month
• Ratios:
  • L&D: 1:1–2, follows AWHONN guidelines
  • Postpartum: 1:4 couplet care
• Floating: Rarely to Med-Surg or CCU (only if desired); expected to work both L&D & PP within unit
• Charge Nurse: Yes, takes patient assignments
• Nurse Aides: None
• Orientation: 2–3 days floor-specific
• Common Diagnoses: High-risk deliveries (≥35 weeks), postpartum gyn surgery patients, drug-exposed newborns on withdrawal protocol, twin deliveries

Experience Requirements:

• Must have both L&D and Postpartum experience
• Must be comfortable independently running and managing deliveries
• Must be teamwork-oriented
• Will not scrub in for C-sections (OR staff covers this)

Required Certifications:

• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
• NCC Certified Inpatient OB (RNC-OB) preferred

Technology & Equipment:

• EMR: Cerner
• Fetal monitoring: Fetal Link
• Telemetry: Philips
• Ventilators: No
• Pharmacy: In-house ~10 hrs/day, not 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy: 24/7
• Hospitalist: Must be available 24/7
• OB/GYN Coverage: 4 physicians + 2 midwives
