Overview Reporting to the Administrative Director, the Assistant Director is responsible for the comprehensive administrative management of the Proctor Foundation at UCSF. This role involves strategizing, developing, and implementing administrative structures and funding streams to support the department’s mission and operations. The Assistant Director will work closely with leadership to integrate clinical services with the university's goals of teaching and research. As a key member, the Assistant Director will engage in strategic planning and oversight to enhance departmental operations. The Assistant Director will oversee the management of departmental space and provide effective support for contracts, and grants, ensuring compliance with research programs. They will also ensure the provision of exceptional administrative and human resources management across the department. The position requires optimizing resource utilization and establishing efficient administrative systems and processes. The Assistant Director will provide fiscal oversight and management, ensuring adherence to university policies. They will monitor revenue streams and expenditures, offering strategic guidance to the Administrative Director and the Director of Proctor Foundation, and maintain strong internal controls and streamlined business processes. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $78,900 - $167,300 (Annual Rate).

Department Description The F.I. Proctor Foundation for Research in Ophthalmology at UCSF is committed to engaging in research activities and providing state-of-art patient care that address infectious and inflammatory disease that cause blindness. The mission is the prevention of blindness worldwide through research and teaching focused on infectious and inflammatory eye disease.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Working knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems, budgeting and reporting techniques, accounting and bookkeeping.

Understands the concepts of financial and resource planning as well as how to control organizational budgeting.

Ability to orient new employees, distribute work, and monitor the progress of work.

Knowledge of human resources policies, practices, and planning.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Strong skills in the use of spreadsheet and database software.

Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels.

Ability to deal with changing priorities and direct the work of others accordingly. Ability to multi-task.

Ability to screen applications, interview candidates, and either make selection decisions or recommend individuals for hire.

Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources.

Preferred Qualifications
