Overview
Position: Accountant at Opta Group. You will play a pivotal role in managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and providing strategic financial insights. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and report to the Assistant Controller.
The Accountant will assist with general accounting operations and participate in all accounting processes including reconciling account balances, preparation and posting of journal entries, the monthly close process, reporting and other functions within the department. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, goal-oriented, able to work with minimal supervision, with experience in month-end closing, internal controls and working with auditors. The incumbent must possess interpersonal skills and work well as both a team member and an individual to accomplish tasks with multiple deadlines.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Ledger Management: Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, including month-end and year-end closing processes, posting of JE’s and reconciling balance sheet and income statement accounts in support of monthly closing deadlines.
- Financial Reporting: Assist with the creation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements, in accordance with GAAP.
- Cost Analysis: Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and pricing to support informed decision-making and cost optimization; summarize financial information in a timely manner to meet monthly and annual reporting deadlines.
- Internal Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and maintain data integrity; manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Financial Audits: Assist and support external financial audits, respond to auditor requests, and address audit findings. Liaise with and prepare documentation for external auditors and governmental authorities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with operations, procurement, and other departments to streamline financial processes and provide financial guidance.
- Ad-hoc reports/requests and other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Four-year accounting or finance degree required; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience, preferably in manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles.
- Exceptional accounting software knowledge and skills with MS Office (Word and Excel), Microsoft Dynamics AX and COGNOS (or similar consolidation software) a plus.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial and operational data.
- Experience in an ERP environment.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work independently and in a team.
- Attention to detail and excellent work ethic.
