Overview
Millennium Hotels and Resorts is a global hospitality management and real estate group with 125 hotels in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America. Our historic Millennium Biltmore Los Angeles Hotel is looking for a Director of Human Resources to join our Human Resources team.
The Director of Human Resources will direct and implement the HR function to achieve the hotel's mission with emphasis on employee recruitment, development, and performance. Also responsible for compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Responsibilities
- Direct and implement Human Resources policy consistent implementation.
- Develop and maintain effective labor relations, including building consensus with union representatives and employee delegates.
- Oversee all union grievances and arbitrations; notify corporate HR of all instances.
- Understand and apply relevant labor and employment laws, collective bargaining agreements, and management training of these principles.
- Manage employee relations, including social activities, recognition programs, communications, counseling, and ongoing engagement with hotel staff.
- Administer personnel and medical records in compliance with legal and internal requirements.
- Administer benefits programs in line with corporate initiatives.
- Address performance concerns, provide counseling, conduct disciplinary actions, review systems, and investigate grievances with thorough documentation.
- Develop and implement a compensation system for salaried and hourly positions; collaborate with the corporate office for regional consistency.
- Coordinate training and development initiatives, including management development, compliance, guest service, and position-specific training.
- Coordinate employee safety programs, maintain safety committee processes, and administer Workers’ Compensation.
- Develop and adhere to HR budget in alignment with the hotel budget.
- Administer annual performance reviews and support management development and planning to aid retention and performance.
- Oversee orientation for all new employees and conduct periodic follow-up.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state legislation and interaction with government agencies (e.g., NLRB, EEOC, and other state agencies).
- Direct HR staff to meet regulatory requirements and act as a business partner and strategic planner with Hotel Management and Corporate Management.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
Qualifications
- Preferred experience as an accomplished mediator and negotiator, persuasive, consensus builder, objective.
- Education: Required – B.S./B.A. preferably in Human Resources or Hotel Administration (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Required – minimum 5 years of HR generalist experience with hotel exposure; significant labor/employee relations experience in a unionized setting.
- Preferred – SPHR or PHR.
- Hotel experience is a must.
