About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role Anthropic is seeking a Web Editorial Designer specializing in content-driven web design and digital storytelling to help bring our AI research, insights, and complex technical concepts to life through compelling editorial web experiences. In this role, you'll craft thoughtfully designed web pages that transform dense research papers, policy insights, and AI safety concepts into accessible, engaging digital narratives that educate and inform diverse audiences.

You'll collaborate closely with our Research, Policy, Communications, and Editorial teams to translate groundbreaking AI research and safety work into visually compelling web experiences. Your expertise in editorial design, content hierarchy, and digital storytelling will be crucial in making complex AI concepts accessible to researchers, policymakers, journalists, and the general public.

This role sits at the intersection of design and technology, requiring someone who can think strategically about content presentation while executing exceptional design craft.

Responsibilities

Lead the design of web experiences that transform complex AI research, policy papers, and technical documentation into accessible, engaging digital narratives using CMS platforms

Build flexible design systems that maintain brand integrity while adapting to different content types and publication needs

Transform technical research into compelling digital narratives through thoughtful information architecture, data visualization, and interactive storytelling

Establish and evolve comprehensive design systems, standards, and workflows specifically for editorial content, setting organizational standards for research publication design and cross-team collaboration processes

Pioneer new methodologies for presenting technical research online

Work strategically with design engineers to translate complex editorial designs into scalable, performant web experiences, providing clear design specifications, technical requirements, and iterative feedback while understanding development constraints and opportunities to enhance editorial content presentation

You may be a good fit if you

Have a strong portfolio demonstrating experience in editorial design, whether in digital publishing, news organizations, research institutions, or content-focused web design, with examples of transforming complex information into clear, engaging web experiences

Demonstrate deep understanding of typography, information hierarchy, and content organization principles, with experience designing for long-form content, research publications, or educational materials

Have experience working with researchers, academics, journalists, or policy experts to translate complex subject matter into accessible web content

Can create clear, accurate visualizations and infographics that support editorial content

Have hands-on experience with content management systems and low-code tools, with understanding of how to optimize for editorial workflows

Strong commitment to creating accessible web experiences that serve diverse audiences, including those accessing technical content in multiple languages or with varying levels of subject matter expertise

Experience working in cross-functional teams with non-design stakeholders, particularly content creators, researchers, or editorial staff, with ability to translate feedback into effective design solutions

Balance high editorial standards with practical constraints, making thoughtful tradeoffs while maintaining accuracy and quality in fast-paced environments

The expected salary range for this position is:

$260,000 - $305,000 USD

Logistics Education requirements:

We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Location-based hybrid policy:

Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship:

We do sponsor visas. If we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

We encourage you to apply even if you do not believe you meet every single qualification. Not all strong candidates will meet every qualification as listed. We value diverse perspectives and strive to include a range of voices on our team.

How we're different We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on a few large-scale research efforts. We value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller puzzles. We are highly collaborative and value communication skills. The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research, including GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.

Come work with us! Anthropic is a public benefit corporation headquartered in San Francisco. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, optional equity donation matching, generous vacation and parental leave, flexible working hours, and a lovely office space in which to collaborate with colleagues.
