Job Title: Senior Business Analyst

Location: Richmond, VA

Job Type: Contract

The Business Analyst will bridge the gap between business needs and IT solutions by gathering, analyzing, and documenting requirements, and ensuring successful delivery of IT software and application projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather, analyze, and document functional and non-functional requirements.
• Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, and requirements sessions to identify needs and translate them into actionable items.
• Break down complex processes and systems into clear, manageable components for technical and non-technical audiences.
• Prepare diagrams, data flow maps, and wireframes to visualize proposed solutions.
• Translate technical concepts from developers into business language and communicate business needs to technical teams.
• Create and manage Agile work items (backlog, Epics, Features, User Stories, Tasks, Test Plans, Test Cases) using Azure DevOps (TFS).
• Perform system integration testing and support user acceptance testing to ensure solutions meet business needs.
• Assist in rolling out new systems and processes, managing user adoption, and ensuring smooth transitions.
• Develop and deliver clear documentation and presentations to executive leadership and business stakeholders.
• Support project teams in Agile/Scrum (including SAFe) as well as Waterfall environments.
• Model business processes using swim lane diagrams, flow charts, and other business process modeling techniques.

Required Skills and Experience

• 5+ years of Business Analyst experience in IT projects.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, with proven ability to present and document effectively.
• Experience working on IT software/application projects.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes, not just symptoms.
• Proficiency in requirements gathering and documentation, including functional and non-functional requirements.
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (TFS) for managing Agile artifacts.
• Familiarity with enterprise software (Oracle, SQL Server), databases (SQL), APIs, and data flow diagrams.
• Experience creating wireframes or visualizations for business/technical alignment.
• Solid understanding of Agile (Scrum/SAFe) and Waterfall methodologies.
• Experience in business process modeling and documenting workflows.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to negotiate priorities, resolve conflicts diplomatically, and handle pushback effectively.
• Experience in system integration testing (IT testing) and assisting with user acceptance testing.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in system rollouts and driving user adoption initiatives.
• Experience in both large enterprise and cross-functional project environments.
