Job Description Salary: $30.72-$44.18 per hour Elk Grove Village, Illinois, (pop. 33,127), a strategically located, progressive community that is home to the largest consolidated business park in North America, is seeking a dynamic, detailed and skills-oriented candidate for the position of Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department. Elk Grove Village is located in Cook and DuPage Counties adjacent to OHare International Airport and is home to approximately 5,600 businesses, located in its 5.4 square mile Business Park.
The Public Works Department maintains Village-owned property, infrastructure, and equipment. It consists of the General Operations Division, the Utilities Division, and the Engineering Division. The Department maintains water and sewer utilities, public streets and rights-of-way, urban forestry, land, engineering, facilities, and fleet services.
The Maintenance Worker is a union position under the general supervision of a Public Works Foreman. This position will primarily be assigned to the Forestry Activity but will be expected to assist in other Activities as directed. The position performs operation, maintenance, and repair activities for the Villages infrastructure to enhance the quality of life in our exceptional community.The position will be involved in various Public Works activities within the operational areas of streets, traffic, land and forestry. The position performs tasks in response to emergency overtime situations, including snow and ice control, flooding, and wind damage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Tree trimming and removal Stump grinding Tree planting Turf restoration Perform tree health evaluations Enter and update records in the Villages asset management software to track asset inventory and maintenance and repairs against assets Perform brush collection Operate heavy trucks and equipment to repair and maintain Village infrastructure Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup for Village special events Perform snow plowing and salt spreading as part of 24/7 winter operations to ensure safe roadway conditions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED equivalent required. This position is physically demanding and requires semi-skilled manual labor and the operation of various light and heavy-duty equipment.Working knowledge and experience in Public Works activities; skill in operating power tools and equipment; and effective communication skills.Candidates must exhibit a passion for public service and a willingness to work overtime and respond to off-hours emergencies.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Must possess and maintain a valid Illinois Drivers License with a safe driving record. Required to have a Class B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker and air brake endorsements or to obtain licenses within six (6) months of employment.
HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week OPENING DATE: September 17, 2025 Emergency overtime as needed required. Alternating weekend standby assignments are required. PAY RANGE: $30.72 - $44.18 per hour CLOSING DATE: Open until filled Candidates will only be offered a starting salary of $30.72 based on union contract.
