Job Description Description: Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a part-time Fitness Center Attendant to provide superior customer service to fitness center members under the supervision and direction of the Fitness Supervisor. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to greeting and assisting members, monitoring membership passes, maintaining a clean and safe facility and other duties as assigned by management. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay for the PT Fitness Center Attendant is $15.00 per hour. Plus, we offer park district usage benefits. Requirements: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Properly administer all duties associated with the overall daily operation including opening and closing the fitness center.
Promptly greet and assist members in a pleasant and professional manner.
Check in fitness center members and monitor membership passes.
Ensure the fitness areas (fitness center, track, Lifestyle, and Performance) remain clean and organized; organize dumbbells, weight plates, and bars. Disinfect and clean fitness equipment.
Be cognizant of the safety of the fitness center guests throughout all fitness spaces at all times. Spaces include the fitness center, track, and group fitness studios.
Promptly respond to and report accidents and incidents.
Report equipment and facility issues as well as incidents as required to the Fitness Supervisor.
Ensure members’ behavior in the fitness center is appropriate and enforce fitness rules.
Attend staff meetings, training and special events.
Report to work as assigned. Punctuality and regular attendance are essential functions of this position.
Be familiar with all Park District policies and procedures and develop the ability to make decisions within Park District regulations.
Assist in group fitness class set ups and take down as needed.
Ensure music is turned on and playing in the fitness center and Performance Studio.
Communicate to the front desk when stepping away from the fitness desk.
SECONDARY DUTIES: Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.
Perform all other duties as assigned by the Fitness Supervisor, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency perform all duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years old.
Must be CPR/AED and First Aid certified or obtain certifications through the Park District within one (1) month of employment and maintain throughout employment. Must be physically able to administer CPR and/or First Aid if needed.
Must have a pleasant demeanor and cooperative attitude. Must possess a high level of energy, social skills, and enthusiasm.
Previous fitness
knowledge/experience
preferred.
Must be reliable and dependable. Must show initiative and be able to work independently and/or as a team player.
Must be aware of the safety of the fitness center guests at all times and promptly respond to emergencies and accidents. Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly. Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion.
Must be able to communicate effectively with others for safety purposes and to allow for coordination of work.
This position involves standing, walking, sitting and lifting throughout the shift. Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time. Must be able to push/pull, reach, occasionally balance, bend at the waist, crouch, kneel, and handle objects. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds. Must be able to use hands for coordination of work, safety and handling of equipment.
Must adhere to all Park District policies, including dress code and appearance policies.
Must have the ability to work a flexible work schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, weekends and holidays. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Fitness Center Attendant position.
Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary and your workweek may exceed regular hours at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year.
