Overview

Facility Maintenance position focused on installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical power apparatus, controls, electrical systems, and equipment throughout the Albany Medical Center. Responsibilities include safety checks, sustaining nurse call systems, signaling systems, and fire alarm systems, and supporting other trades as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical power apparatus, controls, electrical systems, and equipment throughout the facility.
  • Check apparatus for safety hazards and ensure compliance with National Electrical Codes, NFPA Healthcare Codes, and NFPA Life Safety Codes.
  • Install, maintain, and repair nurse call systems, signaling systems, fire alarm systems, and various types of commercial, industrial, and residential equipment.
  • Read and work from drawings, blueprints, and sketches; report needs for parts and manage stock.
  • Perform preventive maintenance via computerized PM tickets on electrical systems; follow safety policies and use PPE.
  • Gain knowledge of low voltage signaling and communications systems, including facility fire and security alarm systems.
  • Install, inspect, maintain, repair, and adjust motors, signal or power equipment, controllers, switches, and hospital-related electrical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and clean electrical control equipment; assist other shop crafts in troubleshooting electrical systems as needed.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance and testing on electrical distribution systems and emergency generators under supervision.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain electrical distribution equipment, including power distribution vaults and switchgear.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and repair fire alarm systems, nurse call systems, and other low voltage communications systems.
  • Run conduit and cable from source to location; ensure proper anchoring of conduit runs.
  • Move and install electrical equipment as required; complete tasks in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Demonstrate a customer-first attitude and comply with Albany Medical Center safety policies.
  • Assist and cooperate with foremen and supervisors to schedule and complete projects as planned.
  • Assist with training of new shift engineers and electricians on facility fire alarm systems.
  • Participate in daily housekeeping to promote department safety; attend asbestos training and support asbestos work as part of the team.
  • Assist the Director and Assistant Director of Facility Maintenance in emergencies; management may reassign duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school graduate or equivalent and five years of experience as a commercial electrician or controls tech.
  • Excellent working knowledge of National Electrical Codes, NFPA Healthcare Codes, NFPA Life Safety Codes.
  • Ability to work from drawings, blueprints, and sketches; operate from computerized PM tickets for various electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of low voltage signaling and communications systems, including fire and security alarm systems.
  • Ability to install, inspect, maintain, repair, and adjust motors, electrical equipment, controllers, and switches; perform related tasks for hospital facilities.
